Description

Extension

Running through the states of Gujrat, Haryana, Delhi, and mainly Rajasthan, the Aravalli Range stands tall kissing the clouds of the blue sky and helps protect the biodiversity of these states. It runs for almost about 692 kilometres.

Climate

The Aravalli plays a major role in balancing the Indus-Ganga plain climate. Destroying this range also leads to the destruction of the monsoon pattern of North India.

Peaks

Mount Abu is the highest peak here. The exact spot is Guru Shikhar of Mount Abu which stands at an elevation of 5650 feet. It is just a 160km drive from Udaipur of Rajasthan.

Flora and fauna

Aravalli provides us with a vast variety of medicinal herbs among which Amla tops the list. There are a lot of forests here which also helps maintain the greenery of Rajasthan. Exotic beings like leopards, golden jackals, striped hyena, rhesus macaque have made the jungles of Aravalli their home.

What’s with the name?

‘Ara’ and ‘Valli’ are the two words that make up the name and when put together they mean ‘line of peaks’.

The mystery behind the many Rajasthani Marble factories

Granite, marble, and sandstone are found in huge portions in the Aravallis. It supports the commercial production of several minerals too. For this reason, the states having the Aravalli range are mineral-rich.

The barrier act

The Aravalli stands as a barrier to the mighty Thar desert and Eastern Rajasthan. If the Aravalli were not there, the desert would have spread more. All regards, Udaipur has calm and pleasant weather throughout the year.

Precautions are taken

Ages ago, the range was covered with lush green forests, fertile soil, and lots of exotic wild animals. Human beings have ruined the land to such an extent that almost 1/4th of the hillocks have disappeared. Alwar, Sikar, and Dungarpur are some areas that have been affected the most. Mining was banned in such regions by a Supreme Court order.

The Aravallis are a gift from nature and are responsible for the beauty of the state of Rajasthan. It is our duty to protect and preserve this blessing.
